Rio Ferdinand disagrees with Jermaine Jenas about José Mourinho and Marcelo Bielsa

Former Tottenham star Jermaine Jenas and fellow expert Rio Ferdinand disagree whether they would prefer to play for José Mourinho or Marcelo Bielsa.

The two seasoned bosses meet Tottenham today taking on Leeds United in the early start of the Premier League in North London.

And much of the preparation for the game has been on the two coaches and their hugely contrasting styles.

Bielsa employs an expansive and energetic style of play, while Mourinho is famous for a more conservative approach, sometimes relying on counterattacks but always relying on being defensively solid first and foremost.

Before the game, BT Sport experts Ferdinand and Jenas were asked which of the two coaches they would prefer to play for.

And Jenas answered quickly: “I want to win something. With José, you know that he will deliver titles at some point and within what José does there is a fight but in the end it will be worth it.

“Ask someone like Samuel Eto’o, who was sent off on the left by Inter Milan. He absolutely loves and adores José Mourinho because he won the hat-trick at Inter.

“There’s a lot of sacrifice and the players have seen it. We haven’t seen Kane play that deep and the players have to defend so hard, but it could bring a title.”

Ferdinand replied: “I think that in Italy that style of football is respected as Italian football clubs do. In England, I think it is different. If there were fans here they would accept it, I don’t think so.

“I think in every game having to sit there and defend 1-0 scores and tell a player from box to box ‘no, you can’t play like this’, it’s frustrating that players can’t elaborate as much as they want. ” . “

Jenas jumped by saying: “People forget that Mourinho was with Mesut Ozil and Ronaldo at Real Madrid and creating. He has changed to adapt with the team he has and the team he took over was defensively fragile.

“But if I’m winning every week and winning a Premier League title, I’d be happy. I trained with you Rio, winning was everything. If you left the field after losing, you were furious.”

And Ferdinand responded to that statement, reasoning: “I think he is a fantastic coach and you can’t do anything but respect him, but I think some of the players would feel subdued.”

“Ask Nemanja Vidic, I would walk off the court and be moaning if I hadn’t touched the ball. He would say ‘Rio, we won 2-0’. But I haven’t enjoyed it and I am. I was.

“Personally, this is how I feel.”
