Kaizer’s bosses mourn legend Ryder Mofokeng

The Kaizer Chiefs defensive stalwart in the 1970s and longest-serving captain Ryder Mofokeng has died, the club announced Saturday.

The Chiefs made the announcement of the death of right-back Mofokeng, a South African soccer legend, on their social media platforms. He was 70 years old.

Amakhosi tweeted: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our legend and the oldest captain of the Kaizer Chiefs, Johannes ‘Ryder’ Mofokeng.

“Director [Kaizer Motaung] On behalf of the Club, he expressed his deepest condolences to the grieving family and friends.

Mofokeng performed for Chiefs from 1975 to 1985, being the club’s captain for most of that period.

He told TimesLIVE at Amakhosi’s 50th anniversary celebration in Phefeni ‚Soweto in January last year that his generation was fondly remembered because they built Chiefs from scratch when the club split from the Orlando Pirates in 1969.

“People appreciate his abilities. Because they are the ones who took the Kaizer Chiefs out of nowhere somewhere, ”Mofokeng said then.

“Kaizer Chiefs was known for his greatness. Back then, I didn’t see it [what Chiefs would become].

“But when he [Motaung] started with development [Chiefs’ village] at Naturena, then I could see that the club is growing and that it was going to go further ”.

Mofokeng was part of a golden generation that included the likes of Pule “Ace” Ntsoelengoe and Teenage Dladla, who made the Chiefs the huge club they became almost overnight, playing beautiful soccer, winning trophies. and drawing legions of fans to their official line-up in January. 1970.
