Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has issued a statement in a statement criticizing Police Minister Bheki Cele’s orders that South Africans must be in bed before 9pm on New Year’s Eve.
The party is not alone.
Mzansi has reacted antagonistically to Cele’s recommendations, further prompted by President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement on Monday that this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration will be a sober affair.
They literally removed the ban on alcohol and Bheki Cele disappeared into thin air.

No more fireworks or bubbles to usher in hope for a better new year; South Africans have found it difficult to accept the idea of drinking grape juice and lighting a candle.
The EFF supported Ramaphosa’s suggestion to light a candle for those who lost their lives due to Covid-19, but rebuked Cele for “contradicting the president with his baseless and stupid regulations.”
“We are all expected to be home by 9 pm, so the police should not harass South Africans for the wrong jerk of a minister who clearly suffers from verbal diarrhea,” they said.

The party contributed 15 million rand to the Solidarity Fund in the fight against Covid-19 and said it “continues to sympathize with all those infected, affected and the families of those who lost their lives.”
But they have had it with “this clown named Bheki Cele”, whom they go on to accuse of being “an anti-black minister who is only good at using violent language when talking to blacks and very romantic when talking to whites. “
The party also doubted the sincerity of Cele’s efforts to curb corruption, money-in-transit thefts and gender-based violence, saying that in dealing with these challenges, Cele “is nowhere to be found.”

The EFF encouraged black South Africans not to listen to Cele “until he decisively addresses the above.”
“We are not in a police state and Bheki Cele must not behave as if he is the absolute referee.
“He can tell his kids when to sleep at 9pm, not us.”
The party concluded its scathing statement by treating the new year with “vigor and determination”, and that even in the face of death, “we must always cherish life.”
