The countdown to the end of 2020 is already underway. While New Year’s Eve has been “canceled” in much of the world, you can still get some action. That is how.
New Years Eve in a world ravaged by a pandemic
Performance by Patti Smith
If you plan to spend the night indoors, we suggest you turn to some virtual New Year’s Eve live broadcasts to keep that party spirit. One of the biggest events to watch is Patti Smith on the biggest screen in Europe.
Patti and her band will welcome in 2021 with a 10-minute performance at London’s Piccadilly Circus. The event will also be used to pay tribute to healthcare workers who passed away in 2020.
It will air worldwide for free and will officially start at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), which is 1:30 South African Standard Time (SAST) on Friday, January 1, 2021. Enjoy!
Fireworks from around the world
If it’s fireworks you’re looking for, Revive Music will broadcast live spectacular displays from around the world. From Sydney to Seattle, watch a dazzling New Year’s Eve fireworks display. Say goodbye 2020 and happy new year 2021.
Alternatively, you can also find Soulful Sound’s “Happy New Years Song Playlist / New Years Music Mix” below as well. It’s a compilation of New Year’s songs with a good dose of fireworks for good measure.
New Years Eve in Times Square
The organizers invite you to “enjoy commercial-free webcast coverage of the festivities leading up to the Ball Drop at midnight, including backstage access, behind-the-scenes stories and interviews with artists and celebrities.”
The event starts at 1:00 AM South African Standard Time on Friday, January 1, 2021.
Snoop’s Virtual New Years Eve Special
Why not join the Snoop Dogg Virtual New Years Eve Special presented by Go-Big Show? Some of the guests who joined in the fun include Bert Kreischer, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Nettles, and Cody Rhodes.
What better way to say goodbye to 2020 than to enjoy a good barbecue of the year that was and dance to the new year (virtually) from Snoop’s Los Angeles-based The Compound.
The event will also feature sets from DJ Cassidy, Fredwreck and DJ Battlecat along with Snoop, plus special guests like Tyson, Martha Stewart Pharrell Williams.
It starts at 23:00 Eastern Standard Time (EST), so if you’re watching from South Africa, you only need to tune in at 6:00 on Friday, January 1, 2021 for this one. Learn more below and RSVP here.
BTS and friends
Of course, there is more to do tonight. Fans of Korean boy band BTS could look forward to their first performance since the band’s world tour. BTS will do their best at a show outside of Seoul.
Other K-pop artists in the lineup include NU’EST, GFriend, Sunmi, CL, P1Harmony, ENHYPEN, as well as performances by others: Halsey, Lauv, Gracie Abrams, and Steve Aoki.
Those lucky enough to be in the vicinity could attend a socially estranged crowd in real life. For the rest of us, it will be enough to see it through Weverse. You can also watch K-Pop here, 24/7.
