The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has defended its leader, Julius Malema, after a video of his dance during the Christmas season without any physical distancing and without wearing a mask spread like wildfire on social networks.
The video was first shared on social media pages 4 days ago, shortly before President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement of the adjusted level 3 lockdown, but the original post has since been removed.
Ramaphosa said Monday night that social gatherings had become wide-spread events during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to the need for stricter lockdown regulations across the country, according to the which all meetings were prohibited for 14 days.

People criticize #JuliusMalema for posting this video four days ago. But public gatherings were allowed when this was published. Whenever people come to a disco or restaurant, you take off your moe masks. Why apply such regulations differently on him … ???????????????? pic.twitter.com/wgNW9d7wX0

In a response on social media, the EFF shared a video clip of the president addressing the nation earlier when he said social gatherings should be held outside.
They tweeted: “The two beautiful Black Love events were from the immediate family, attended by all nine of Koko Sarah Malema’s children and all of her grandchildren. They were in the open air and in well ventilated spaces as decreed by the prepaid president of South Africa ”.

Malema himself did not seem bothered by the social media uproar judging by his following Twitter post after sharing the EFF video post.
