CAPE TOWN – The family of a three-year-old boy who disappeared in Imizamo Yethu desperately awaits comments from authorities after a body was found in the area.

Anothando Mhlobo disappeared in August while playing with friends in the area.

Last week, a resident found a body in a rocky and sandy area, however police could not confirm if it was really the boy, as the autopsy and DNA tests have not yet been completed.

However, the boy’s mother is convinced that he is her little one and wants confirmation from the police.

A resident of Imizamo Yethu, who was collecting sand, made the gruesome discovery while excavating.

“In you, in you … [after filling] about six buckets, I found a jacket underground. When I took it out, I found the other bones … I found a headless body. “

Mphathi Mabala, in shock at realizing what he had found, alerted other residents and they notified the police.

The police have yet to determine the identity of the body, but little Anothando Mhlobo’s mother believes he is her son.

Speaking through an interpreter, Phatiswa Mhlobo, explained that she is convinced that it is her son, with the body found about 100 meters from her home.

“When they found the boy, he was wearing the same clothes the last time they were together. A navy blue tracksuit with white stripes and red pants.”

She said that when the body was discovered, a Spiderman rubber boot was found, a boot the boy had.

The mother said that all she wanted was confirmation from the authorities so that the family could get some kind of closure and give her a dignified burial.

‘OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT SAFE’

Meanwhile, the Imizamo Yethu community remains in shock after the discovery of the body.

Community leader Samkelo Krweqe said the discovery of the body had left many residents concerned.

“We know they found the boy, but we’re still waiting for all the protocols, the DNA tests and all of this, and I can’t even properly tell people and say, ‘Guys, the boy we were. we have now discovered ‘”.

Krweqe is urging authorities to provide comment on the investigation.

“My appeal to SAPS is that we need quick assistance regarding this child. When you find human remains, let alone the child was wearing the same clothes as Anothando when he disappeared, they should have taken him faster to the family to make amends, if that it’s your son “.

Also ask for more recreational facilities and activities for children, especially during the holiday period.

“Our children are not safe, so we need to take extra precautions. We are also telling the government that when the school closes it should be able to offer programs for children, so that we can keep the children occupied. You can see the areas that we live in. They slip away … you think your son is playing there, but your son has been kidnapped, someone is doing something with your son. “
