Older iPhone and Android devices will no longer support the latest version of WhatsApp, forcing owners to update their mobile operating systems or, for many, to buy a new smartphone.

The creators of the application advised that users update their devices to the latest versions of their operating systems. Older smartphone users that have not been updated to iOS 9 or higher, or Android 4.0.3 or higher, will not be able to run WhatsApp starting in the new year.

Which phones will work and which won’t?

Any phone that does not run the above-mentioned systems will no longer be able to open or operate the Facebook-owned application. This means that all iPhone models up to iPhone 4 will not be compatible with WhatsApp, as these phones cannot be updated to iOS 9.

Similarly, if someone is using a Samsung Galaxy S2, they will not be able to use WhatsApp.
