JOHANNESBURG – Eskom said on Wednesday that although the risk of loss of cargo would be significantly lower starting next year, it would never be completely eliminated.

The utility company said it was on track with its planned maintenance program and expected it to be completed in September.

However, Eskom cautioned that this did not mean that continuous blackouts were a thing of the past.

“What is needed to eliminate head loss is new generation capacity. That means new power plants, be it renewable energy or any other form of generation. That is the surest way to end cargo shedding because you have to drive a growing economy and for that you need capacity, ”said Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.

Eskom is expected to cut power between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Thursday to build up reserves for when companies open their doors in the new year.

The utility company is advising customers to check the schedule to see how stage 2 will affect their area.
