Cape Town – The horrific discovery of the body of a man with his head and arm missing was made in a suitcase in Athlone.

When a man was seen dragging the large suitcase to Hazendal train station, no one could have imagined that there was a dead body inside.

The suspect had allegedly placed the black suitcase in the underpass (subway) and tried to set it on fire.

Station personnel saw the suspect setting the bag on fire, which began to smoke, and they rushed to put out the fire. The suspect got away.

It was then that they discovered that the suitcase contained a dismembered body.

A Hazendal worker says: “The man’s hands were cut off and his head was not in the bag. Someone was dragging a suitcase just before the fire started. But when we got closer to the fire, we didn’t see anyone. “

Athlone Community Police Forum president Aziza Kannemeyer says this is the first time they have recorded such a gruesome crime in the area.

“This seems so unreal, maybe the suspect came to the area because he knows it’s calm,” she says.

“This is new to the area and we have questions left and we are still in shock.

Where was the man killed? When was he assassinated? Why did they leave it here? Why were the body parts cut off?

“We are hopeful that the police will soon find clues and arrest the suspect.”

She explains that the body was found just before 6 a.m. Sunday.

“No one saw where the man came from or where he had gone. It could be that the person just went to Hazendal station because people were not using the trains that day. “

Police spokesman Colonel André Traut said no arrests have been made: “On Sunday morning, around 6 in the morning, the body of an unknown man was found in a suitcase at the train station in Hazendal in Athlone.

“A suspect was seen carrying the suitcase and setting it on fire. The body was beheaded and the head and arm are still being sought.

The murder is being investigated.
