Family dismisses report that Zuma was hospitalized with Covid-19

DURBAN: Jacob Zuma’s family has flatly dismissed as false a media report that he has contracted Covid-19 and is in hospital.

An explanatory statement issued on behalf of the family by one of their sons, Edward Zuma, in response to a Sunday World article yesterday said that Zuma is “fine and in a good mood” at his home in Nkandla.

According to the weekly tabloid, Zuma contracted the virus along with his older wife, Sizakele Khumalo-Zuma (MaKahumalo), and was being treated at a private hospital in Richards Bay.

The newspaper said it relied on information it obtained from an anonymous source who is apparently aware of most of the happenings inside the Zuma home.

However, in refuting the story, Edward said that people are “desperate” since yesterday he had breakfast with his father and stepmother.

“We wish to inform the South African public about the health status of the former president, Mr. Jacob G Zuma. He is doing well and enjoying his parties with the family and is at home complying with all the regulations that were announced in March of this year.

“He’s fine and in a good mood. We wish to ask all South Africans to adhere to and respect all the regulations that our government has implemented, as the former president has been doing since the beginning of the pandemic, ”Edward said in the statement, adding that the Zuma family looks forward to you look forward to a New Years Party.
