Eskom announced on Tuesday that it would implement stage 2 load shedding, starting at 10 PM and ending Wednesday morning at 5 AM.
These cuts are expected to continue again Wednesday night through Thursday morning.
The besieged power company said the cuts were necessary to “preserve emergency generation reserves in preparation for increased demand expected during January as economic activity resumes.”
Currently, the company has 9,745 MW in planned maintenance and another 11,346 MW capacity is unavailable due to unplanned maintenance.
“Eskom will communicate in time in the event of significant changes in the electrical system,” he said.
