In an unrelated incident in West Rand on Sunday night, police arrested two security guards while conducting an on-site investigation into an alleged business robbery at a mining company in Kagiso.

The guards said they were on duty when they were allegedly accosted by armed suspects who took various items, including the two-way radio and copper wire from the security company.

“Police immediately learned that the robbery had been organized and arrested both security guards on the spot on charges of perjury and robbery,” Peters said.

An investigation is underway to determine whether the guards colluded with other suspects.

“In our concerted efforts to reduce the volume of three crimes [hijackings, business and house robberies] We naturally mobilize and deploy a lot of energy and resources in our response to reported cases. In both cases, the resources could have been allocated to legitimate crime scenes, but instead they had to be diverted, as we cannot rule out a reported case until it has been thoroughly investigated, which would harm the genuine victims of the crime. ” said Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant General. Gen Elias Mawela.
