The Blue Bulls Company announced the signing of Springbok loose forward Marcell coetzee on Monday, starting July 2021.

The 29-year-old signed a three-year contract and returns to South Africa after five seasons with club PRO16 Ulster, where he quickly became a mainstay in their starting lineup.

Coetzee has been outstanding once again for Ulster, having made the most carries to date in the tournament (98), unloading (16) and also ranking in the top ten for tackles completed (77).

The former Port Natal High School fellow also represented the Sharks in Super Rugby and the Currie Cup before a brief stint with the Honda Heat in the Japan Senior League before moving on to PRO16.

“Marcell is a phenomenal player and any team in the world would be delighted to have a player of his caliber join their structures,” said Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White.

“He has grown larger and larger over the years, and currently plays some of the best rugby in his life. He is excited to be back in South Africa and to make Loftus his home.”

Coetzee has played 30 tryouts to date for the Springboks since he made his debut in 2012.
