Dan Malesela rejoins Chippa United as head coach

Dan Malesela’s love-hate romance novel with Chippa United is slated for another chapter as he will be announced as Chilli Boy’s new coach.

TimesLIVE is reliably reported that former Orlando Pirates captain Malesela, who was fired by DStv Premiership’s new guys, TS Galaxy a week ago, was traveling to Port Elizabeth to take on his new job at Chippa on Sunday.

Chippa’s coach who started this season, Lehlohonolo Seema, was suspended on Tuesday, having managed to win just one of eight games in the DStv Premiership this season.

The Eastern Cape club tried last week to name controversial Belgian Luc Eymael as its new head coach. But the Chilli Boys had to withdraw the appointment after strong objections from the South African Football Association (Safa) in relation to racist statements that the former Polokwane City, Black Leopards and Free State Stars coach had made at a previous club.

Eymael was sacked by Young Africans FC in Tanzania in July for referring to club fans as “monkeys and dogs who know nothing about football.”

This will be Malesela’s third stint at the club of notoriously fickle president Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi.

Malesela was fired from his second stint as Chippa’s coach in August 2018, just three games, two losses and a draw, in the 2018-19 season.

Malesela was in his second stint as Chippa’s coach. He had returned to the club in preseason.

Previously, Chippa had put Malesela on a “special license” in April of the 2016-17 season, and then she was reinstated for the final games. He was then fired by Mpengesi in September of the 2017-18 season and replaced by his assistant, Teboho Moloi.

Moloi was fired by Chippa in March 2018 and replaced by Vladislav Heric. Heric became the club’s technical director but was fired upon returning from his holiday in Serbia in June. Malesela had been re-elected Chippa’s coach at the end of May.

Malesela was fired from the Galaxy after a 3-2 loss to Cape Town two Saturdays ago, which saw them extend their winless streak at PSL to six games.
