Liverpool have been so successful in recent seasons because all the players and staff members have been pulling in the same direction.
Jurgen Klopp hasn’t had a lot of major issues to deal with, in terms of first-team players wanting to leave Anfield.
But is that about to change in 2021? Mohamed Salah is apparently not entirely happy at Liverpool, according to Mohamed Aboutrika, his friend and former international teammate, and there is speculation that he would be willing to leave the club next summer.
There is no need for Liverpool to panic at this point. Salah signed a five-year contract extension in 2018, tying it until 2023, and is still producing the products in the field.
In 21 appearances this season, the Egyptian forward has scored 16 goals and provided four assists.
However, ex Liverpool Forward Stan Collymore wants Salah to commit to his long-term future with the Reds or leave in the summer.
“Jurgen Klopp needs to send a real message to Mo Salah: Tell us you want to stay, or you can leave,” wrote Collymore, who played for Liverpool between 1995 and 1997, in Mirror.
“As sensational as it has been, it is not bigger than Liverpool FC, so the coach should call its bluff.”
He continued: “An interview in Spain that suggests that he was unhappy about not being named captain against Midtjylland in the Champions League, and showing a smile towards Barcelona and Real Madrid, are the widest courts.
“Not to be named patron in a match in the Champions League group stage? It’s an overreaction. To me, it smells like Yaya Touré and the infamous birthday cake episode.
“There are situations where you make your concern public, or get your agent to do it for you, and that wasn’t one of them.”
Collymore wants Liverpool to give Salah an ultimatum: either sign a new contract or pack your bags.
The former England international added: “As far as I’m concerned, it can be arranged in a simple way.
“I know Klopp says he talked to Salah about it, but now the Liverpool manager needs to back him up with: ‘Mo, you’ve been great for the last three or four years. We will offer you the opportunity to stay here for life. Here’s a new contract. ‘
“If, at this point, Salah blinks, then you open the door and say, ‘We move on.’
“He is not the main man at Anfield. One could argue that Virgil van Dijk is, Jordan Henderson is, and the list goes on.
“So offer him £ 200,000 a week, or whatever he wants. Call it.
“If he doesn’t accept it, then put it up for sale at the end of the season.”
Collymore wants Salah to avoid tarnishing his Liverpool legacy by leaving the club under a potential cloud.
“It’s a case of, ‘Come on Mo. Tell us the truth. If you want to leave, no problem, who wouldn’t? But the least the club and the coach deserve is honesty, ”he said.
“If you start annoying people, you end up ruining your reputation. Liverpool is a monster.
“I would hate to think that a player who has contributed so much over the last three or four years comes off on a sour note.
“So Salah, be honest, sincere and tell us what you really want. . . For the good of all “.
