Happy Jele will enter her 15th year at the Orlando Pirates in 2021 and her recipe for consistency has been revealed.
The 33-year-old defender joined the Orlando Pirates in 2006 and has since made more than 350 appearances with the club. Jele also tasted her fair share of success with the Buccaneers who won the league twice, the MTN8 three times, the Nedbank Cup twice and the Telkom Knockout once.
Jele’s most recent triumph, in the form of the 2020 MTN8, came after a sterile five-year career, yet the seasoned Orlando Pirates defender was not part of the trophy celebrations.
Jele ‘Happy’ puts the Orlando Pirates first
“One of Jele’s secrets to staying with the Pirates for more than a decade is always putting the team first.” – Happy Jele’s agent, Jazzman Mahlakgane, told Isolezwe.
“Yes, he would have liked to lift the MTN8 [trophy]but there was nothing he could do, he wasn’t there on game day. Coach Josef Zinnbauer revealed that he was ill.
“We don’t know how this season will end, maybe there will be another trophy for the Orlando Pirates to win and Jele has a chance.”
Why Happy Jele didn’t lift the MTN8 title
“I’m not doctor. I have contact with him but I don’t ask him what happened. He told me he’s sick. He was in a training session before and he came in and said, ‘Coach, I’m not feeling well. Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer said about Happy Jele before the MTN8 final.
“So, I said, ‘Go to the doctor,’ and the doctor said he had to go home, and then the next day he was sick. I don’t know, I don’t have 100 percent of the information, but I think what he has is a normal flu. ”
The Orlando Pirates will not focus their attention on the DStv Premiership and the CAF Confederations Cup after their triumph at MTN8.
