Okay, it seems like Mohamed Salah is still dominating much of the headlines these days.
This should not come as a surprise, after he gave an interview in which he did not rule out signing for players like Barcelona or Real Madrid in the future. And as Jürgen Klopp has said, which player is going to completely rule out joining some of the biggest clubs in Europe in his career?
There is already an article on the website that talks about Salah’s comments last week, and it is still quite valid. Leaving Liverpool to join the La Liga giants is no longer the step it used to be when players like Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suárez did it a few years ago.
Klopp himself summed it up best.
” The only reason to leave Liverpool at the moment is the weather. What other reason could there be? This is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
” We pay good money, maybe not the biggest in the world, but we pay well, we have a great stadium with outstanding fans, we have a fan base all over the world and our colors are red, which is the most beautiful color of all modes “.
It just seems to be a classic case of a player addressing his future and while there is nothing really to talk about, those who are not fans or involved with the club seem to think that it is inevitable that he will leave Anfield. Sadly, this is the world we live in all these days.
Everything is geared towards transfers, from waiting for players to sign at a club to speculating whether a current team member wants out. If Salah finally decides to leave Liverpool, it won’t be because he isn’t happy, wants to leave or has had enough of playing at Anfield. Quite the contrary, in fact.
The Egyptian has written himself in Liverpool folklore, and he certainly deserves to be talked about in the same group as Steven Gerrard, perhaps even Sir Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush. Winning a Premier League and a Champions League automatically puts you at the top of the club’s stature, and scoring the number of goals he has raises it even higher.
Salah is currently under contract to stay at Anfield until 2023, and there have been rumors that a possible extension is in the works. Whether that is true or not remains to be seen, but you can be sure Liverpool will want to keep him at the club for as long as possible.
But at the end of the day, Liverpool is still a business and it all comes down to what they want to happen with Salah’s contract. If you extend you obviously get a world-class player on your books for longer, but you run the risk of it going free or in value deteriorating as the years go by.
If you choose to sell it before your deal expires, then you lose a brilliant player, but at least there is the urge to receive a significant transfer fee for your services. Whatever the future holds for Salah at Anfield, it all depends on which side of the fence Liverpool is on.
From the outside, looking inward, it seems they want him to stay until 2023 and beyond, if possible, but the player himself will have ambitions as well. As much as Liverpool is close to his heart, as with Gerrard, there will almost certainly come a time when he wants a new challenge.
Liverpool will want to have Salah on their books for as long as possible, that’s a no-brainer, and it certainly seems like the sentiment is mutual.
