- North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha has praised all the women who gave birth on Christmas Day.
- The province welcomed 133 babies.
- The MEC advised against hugging and kissing babies and their mothers as part of Covid-19 prevention measures.
The Northwest province has received 133 newborn babies on Christmas Day.
In a statement, Health MEC Madoda Sambatha praised all the women who gave birth at 11:59 p.m. to 68 boys and 65 girls.
“I am pleased that we have a good record of expectant mothers who guaranteed attendance at antenatal clinics,” Sambatha said.
“The purpose of prenatal care is to prevent or identify and treat conditions that may threaten the health of the fetus / newborn and / or mother, and to help a woman approach pregnancy and childbirth as positive experiences. We encourage all women to report to a local clinic when they miss their first period. ”
Of the 133 babies born, Ngaka Modiri Molema district registered a total of 29 babies.

The Bojanala district registered 31 babies and the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda district 34.
Dr. Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, who had fewer births in previous years, has registered this year above all other districts, with 39 babies.
Sambatha said there was a twin delivery at Potchefstroom Hospital.
“As part of the Covid-19 prevention measures, we are discouraging hugs and kisses from babies and their mothers,” Sambatha said.
Sambatha congratulated the mothers and wished them and their babies good health.
