The former Eswatini international feels that Amakhosi’s players lack confidence, hence the team’s current difficulties.

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Abel Shongwe has criticized the club’s head coach, Gavin Hunt, for the team’s poor results.

The Soweto Giants have had one of their worst starts to the season, this came after Hunt was designated before the start of the current season.

The veteran tactician was hired to replace Ernst Middendorp with the German coach who guided Amakhosi to second place in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) last season.

Shongwe, who played for the Chiefs in the 1980s, is dissatisfied with the way Hunt sets up the team and believes the four-time PSL title-winning coach is struggling to manage Amakhosi.

“Remember that the players Hunt uses are the ones who almost won the league title with Ernst Middendorp last season,” Shongwe said. The world.

“In my opinion, Hunt is having a hard time coaching the Chiefs. Sometimes he just sets up the team in a weird way.

“What has happened to the Chiefs is shocking now, you have to do something immediately.”

Amakhosi is currently enduring a five-game winless streak in all competitions after drawing 0-0 at CD Primeiro de Agosto in the first-round first-round match of the Caf Champions League at home on Wednesday.

The Glamor Boys’ current woes have seen their trusted captain and goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune make mistakes that led to goals in back-to-back PSL games against Black Leopards and SuperSport United.

Nicknamed Chaklas, Shongwe feels that Amakhosi’s players lack confidence and are not playing as a team, hence the club’s poor results this season.

“I don’t know if they need advice or not. When you see the Chiefs players enter the stadium, the trust is no longer with them,” he added.

“Lately, he’s hit even the goalkeepers. This is the first time I’ve seen Khune make such terrible mistakes.

“You can see that the players are playing by themselves, this is no longer a team, they are not cooperating as a team.”

The Chiefs hope to get back on the winning track when they face Agosto in the return leg in Angola on January 5.
