Bayer Leverkusen wants Manchester United’s youngster in January

Bayer Leverkusen has solidified its interest in the Manchester United youngster ahead of the next January transfer window.

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became Manchester United’s manager just over two years ago, he was tasked with restoring the club’s prestige. Their ultimate goal was to return the Red Devils to the top of English football, and perhaps even European football.

United are currently third in the Premier League table and if they beat Leicester City this weekend they will move up to second place. Everton will have the opportunity to fill that position later, although Carlo Ancelotti’s men have played one more game.

Then comes the January transfer window, where the Norwegian coach might be thinking of bringing a couple new faces to Old Trafford. But the general consideration is that there will be more exits than entries next month.

And if that were true, then the recent Sky Sports report might contain something. According to the UK publication, Bayer Leverkusen has shown strong interest in Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams.

The report believes that the German side wants to sign it with a permanent agreement, while the Red Devils will not allow the English to leave unless it is a short-term loan.

Bayer Leverkusen had signed Santiago Arias last summer. But having played only one game for his new club, the 28-year-old Colombian broke his ankle and injured his ligament in a terrible clash against Venezuela in an international match last October. As confirmed by the club, he will be out for at least six months.

And the seeming title contenders for the Bundesliga crown feel the dire need for a new right-back. Williams, who can play both left and right, is believed to be one of the top picks to fill that void.

The 20-year-old English full-back has only played once in the league for United this season, thanks to the arrival of Porto’s Alex Telles in the summer transfer window.

History suggests that Williams is likely to be loaned out in January, with Premier League Southampton also looking to acquire the youngster’s services.
