RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola visited his training base ahead of his UEFA Champions League game with Manchester United in October.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men beat the Bundesliga 5-0 in Group H, but were knocked out of the competition in the second leg on matchday six with a disastrous defeat in Leipzig.

However, United put up one of their best displays of the season at Old Trafford, with a hat-trick by Marcus Rashford securing a resounding victory.

Nagelsmann has now explained that Guardiola visited the players and the Leipzig boss during his trip to Manchester on his day off.

“Pep, he has this kind of charisma,” Nagelsmann said. IMAGE.

“When we played United in October, he came to visit the team and me on his day off just to say hello. That’s very grateful.”

Nagelsmann was touted as one of Guardiola’s potential replacements before signing a new contract, and the German has previously spoken about his friendship with the City boss.

The Spaniard’s contract would expire in the summer, prompting speculation about his long-term commitment to Manchester City.

Nagelsmann is considered one of the brightest young coaches in world football at just 33 years old.

He led Leipzig to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season and his team will meet Liverpool in the round of 16.

City, meanwhile, face Borussia Monchengladbach as a reward for leading their group, and United will face Real Sociedad in the Europa League in February after dropping out of the Champions League following Nagelsmann’s defeat to Leipzig when a tie would have been enough.

Leipzig are third in the Bundesliga this season and are two points behind reigning champions Bayern Munich.
