The Chilli Boys have made the new decision following backlash from Safa, the government and the public
Chippa United of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) have withdrawn the appointment of Belgian coach Luc Eymael.
This comes after complaints from the South African Football Association (Safa) and the Eastern Cape government over the 61-year-old strategist’s previous alleged racist comment during his time with Tanzania’s giants, the young Africans.
The Chilli Boys issued the following statement Thursday afternoon as they moved quickly to withdraw the decision:
“The club wishes to formally announce that it has withdrawn the appointment of Belgian Luc Eymael. When the processes are completed, a new coach announcement will be made in due course,” a club statement read.
“After having announced the appointment of Mr. Eymael until the end of the season on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, the club has considered the public outrage. There was also the damage to the reputation caused to our brand, and that of our shareholders. , partners and sponsors “.
“We would like to clarify that the initial decision to make this appointment was based on Mr. Eymael’s coaching history, where we felt he was the best person to lead the club towards the desired upper half end of this PSL season.”

Eymael was appointed by Chippa following the departure of coach Lehlohonolo Seema, who was recently fired by club president Siviwe Mpengesi as the team is fighting for PSL this season.
The Eastern Cape-based team are currently 14th in the league standings having failed to win their last five games.
Chippa’s next game is against a high-flying SuperSport United team in Pretoria on January 6.
