- Churches and weddings are among the events blamed for the resurgence of the coronavirus in Limpopo.

Alcohol-related youth, churches, weddings, sports and events have been blamed for the resurgence of the coronavirus in Limpopo.
Prime Minister Stanley Mathabatha warned residents of the resurgence after the province recorded a growing number of infections in four local municipalities.
The affected municipalities are Makhado, Thulamela, Polokwane and Thabazimbi.
“Among the main factors that contributed to the second wave in the province is the behavior shown by the majority of young people during this festive season. Videos have emerged on social media platforms, where young people attend super broadcaster events and ignore completely health protocols.
“In general, the super broadcast events in the province comprise soccer tournaments, street coups, after-tears gatherings, weddings, religious services and drunkenness in taverns and shebeens,” Mathabatha said.

Mathabatha added that the new Covid-19 variant makes containment even more difficult and would lead to the overwhelming number of public health facilities in the province.
“We are reiterating our wake-up call to the wider society to treat this year’s holiday season as an unusual business. Parents are asked to take responsibility for youth action. Movements should be limited as much as possible. .
“Events should be attended by close family members, a few friends, and a limited number of family members. People are encouraged to wear masks, exercise social distancing, and practice health hygiene at all times.
“We are under siege because of this pandemic and we should all practice the new normal,” Mathabatha said.
