SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux said Marinos’ skills and experience spoke for themselves.

“I would like to congratulate Rugby Australia and Andy on the appointment, from a professional and personal perspective,” said Roux.

“His experience and skills speak for themselves and it will be my pleasure to continue working with him in the Sanzaar joint venture, although he will have a new role. He made an outstanding contribution to SA Rugby in his time here and I am confident that he will do the same in your new position. “

Hamish McLennan, President of Rugby Australia, said Marinos was the outstanding candidate with a strong global network, significant high performance streaming and commercial experience from around the world, as well as proven connections within the Australian game.

“Andy is an extremely impressive and experienced Rugby manager who covered all the key criteria that the board wanted to see in our new CEO,” said McLennan.

“He has called Australia home for the past five years and has an outstanding knowledge of the rugby landscape in this country.

“He has extensive experience in managing broadcasters and business partners and also has impeccable relationships with the Six Nations Unions which, together with his connections with Sanzaar, strengthen Rugby Australia’s bid to host the Rugby World Cup 2027.” .

Marinos played center for Natal Sharks, Western Province and Stormers before moving to Newport in Wales. He played 97 times for the Dragons, from where he was selected to play test rugby for Wales.

He returned to South Africa in 2005 to assume the position of National Team Manager at SA Rugby and also held the positions of General Manager of Commercial and Marketing as well as Manager of the Springboks team.

He also served as a managing director for a period and was a member of the SA Rugby board.

He was appointed CEO of Sanzaar in November 2015.
