CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape Superior Court on Wednesday dismissed Brackenfell High School’s urgent request to ban Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters from protesting outside or near the school in the future.
The school’s governing body tried to intercept the party after Red Beret supporters held anti-racism demonstrations in front of the school in November.
During their last protest, the police prevented supporters from approaching the perimeter of the school and used tear gas, stun grenades and a water cannon to disperse the crowd.
The party protested after allegations emerged of an alleged “whites only” matrix farewell event.
The Western Cape Department of Education, however, cleared the school of any wrongdoing and found no evidence that students were excluded from a private tuition dismissal event because of their race.
EFF Regional Secretary Banzi Dambuza said: “We hope SAPS will step aside because they have no legality preventing us from marching to Brackenfell High School because we are still dealing with racism. It is a very good day, a day that must be put in the history books ”.
