CAPE TOWN – Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who died while hiking the Skeleton Gorge Trail on Table Mountain.
The 42-year-old woman is believed to have slipped or tripped and fell on Saturday morning.
Johan Marais of the Western Cape Wilderness Search and Rescue said rescuers arrived at the scene and found the victim unconscious.
They tried to revive her, but she was eventually declared deceased.
“We also gather this person’s friends and family and bring them back to civilization.”
Marais has warned the public to be cautious when embarking on hikes or walks: “Everyone should be as cautious as possible and watch their balance and remember that Table Mountain is still a wilderness area.”
Claremont Police have logged an investigative case, while an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
