Former gunner says Arteta is not the man for the Arsenal job and suggests a new name

William Gallas says Mikel Arteta is not the man for the Arsenal job and claims Patrick Vieira has more experience for the role.

Arteta was appointed Arsenal manager about a year ago in a surprising club decision.

The former midfielder had never done it before and only spent a few years as an assistant coach at Manchester City.

However, he got off to a good start to his time in the Emirates and ended his first half of the season by winning the FA Cup.

He also won the Community Shield at the beginning of this campaign, but Arsenal’s season has been far from ideal.

The Gunners have won just four league games this season, losing seven of 13 games.

Gallas thinks Arteta’s inexperience is starting to show, and claimed he was no more qualified than Vieira to get the job in the first place.

He was quoted as saying by Sun Sports: “I think maybe the problem at the moment is that Mikel Arteta is not the right coach.

“For me he does not have that experience to lead a great club. I was surprised when he came in, to be honest, even as an assistant to Pep Guardiola, it takes coaching experience to get into a club like Arsenal.

“When Mikel Arteta was chosen to replace Unai Emery, in my mind, Patrick Vieira was the name that I thought they should have chosen.

“I don’t know how close he was or if he was on the run, but I was surprised they didn’t even mention his name.”
