Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has called on motorists across South Africa to join the Arrive Alive ‘Hoot for Life’ road safety campaign.
Urges all road users to honk their vehicle horns at 12 noon every day from December 17 to December 31.
By shouting at noon, South Africans will show their support for road safety initiatives and encourage responsible driving, says Mbalula.
“At 12 o’clock every day, scream for life, reminding yourself that you have a responsibility to your life. You don’t need a police officer to remind you that you have to live, ”Mbalula said at the initiative’s launch on Thursday, December 17, at Soweto’s Maponya Mall.
The minister led a Road Safety Awareness Campaign from Soweto to Soshanguve on an open bus in Gauteng, together with the provincial and metropolitan police officers.
This campaign is part of the intensified 365 Days Arrive Alive 24/7 Waya-Waya national road safety campaign. The main pillars of the campaign for the festive period are: not to drink and drive, to always fasten the seat belt, to opt for daytime driving, to guarantee the suitability of the vehicle and the visibility of pedestrians.
