“I used to sit on one side or sit in another room. Even though they used to ask us to leave our phones outside, like 30 minutes later, I used to get bored and go get my phone. So this year, when he started preparing for the capture of the state, he asked me a couple of questions as if I still remember when we were discussing the appointment of people and I said no, I never sat in any meeting.

“So he’s so paranoid about what I know and also why our marriage doesn’t exist anymore.”

Mngoma added that her ex-husband used to receive gifts from the Guptas.

“When I asked him things he used to say that he declared them or maybe they are gifts or favors because he was doing favors. I didn’t know what favors happened between him and the Guptas because I’ve never sat with them. I haven’t even gotten a call from the Guptas, but I know them because we were there often. [at the house].

“I found him there with the Guptas, so I don’t know how long they have known each other because, mine, I was new to all of this … I didn’t know what was wrong and what was right, ”she said.

Mngoma said she noticed everything was wrong only when the media began writing about her husband’s relationship with the controversial family, which began at the heart of the country’s descent into state capture.

“I used to say it was a campaign to destroy [his] name so I don’t know what exactly was wrong. What I know is that sometimes we visit you, sometimes they give you gifts … I didn’t know what was going on but now I know because he’s so paranoid, scared, saying I shouldn’t say this and not say that … and I said, hawu, I thought you had stated this and said it was okay, “he added.

He distanced himself from the matter, saying that Gigaba should be the one to tell the nation exactly what happened when he appears on the state capture commission.

The couple, who reportedly met at a Johannesburg restaurant in 2009, tied the knot in a lavish garden wedding on August 30, 2014 in front of 550 guests at Durban’s picturesque Botanical Garden.

Gigaba, 49, was previously married to Nokuthula Nxumalo.

The couple made headlines in 2015 when Gigaba became embroiled in an extramarital affair with New York fashionista Buhle Mkhize. That same year, it was reported that an investigation was carried out into the couple’s lavish lifestyle.
