One of the three police officers charged with the murder of Nateniël Julies in August was granted bail of 10,000 rand at the Protea Court of First Instance on Friday.

Sergeant Voster Netshiongolo appeared before Magistrate David Mhango after requesting bail based on new facts.

His co-defendants are Sergeant Simon Scorpion Ndyalvane and Officer Caylene Whiteboy.

The State opposed the request for bail.

Netshiongolo faces murder charges after the fact, thwarting the ends of justice and the illegal possession of prohibited ammunition.

Mhango said that he would not address some of the issues Netshiongolo had raised because they related to the merits of the case, which would be addressed during the trial.

Netshiongolo stated that because he was suspended, he would not be in a position to interfere with the investigations. He also provided an alternate address, which was positively verified.

Mhango said he was of the opinion that Netshiongolo had made a case.

“The investigations according to the State are almost complete, therefore, I come to the conclusion that the applicant number three has presented a case on his new facts on which a bond can be granted and, consequently, I grant him the bond “said Mhango.
