DURBAN – The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal says former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede was authorized by the party’s integrity commission.

That’s because Gumede has yet to receive the indictment.

She was arrested in May 2019 for her alleged participation in a corrupt Durban 450 million rand solid waste tender.

Last year, she was fired as mayor, but in August this year she was sworn in as a member of the KwaZulu Natal Provincial Legislature.

Following the outrage, he was asked to withdraw from the legislature and all party activities pending the decision of the integrity commission.

Gumede is currently out on bail of 50,000 rand and is expected to return to court in March next year.

The ANC has welcomed the decision of the Integrity Committee.

“The integrity commission ruled unanimously that it has no information before it to justify a recommendation to the ANC provincial executive committee that comrades Zandile, Zoe and Thembelihle be removed or suspended from their deployment as eThekwini advisers and members of the provincial legislature respectively, or even to step aside until the criminal process is finished, ”said KZN ANC secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli.
