‘You will be arrested and not released’: Mbalula urges motorists to be responsible

JOHANNESBURG – Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula on Thursday urged South Africans to be responsible and go the extra mile to stay safe on the roads this holiday season.
Mbalula launched his department’s “hoot for life” road safety initiative in Soweto.

The minister asked motorists to briefly honk the horns of their vehicles at noon every day until the end of the year.
He said citizens should be responsible for their own lives and not rely on law enforcement to remind them to stay safe.
“Those of you who go out of your way, we have an appointment with you. You will be arrested and not released, ”Mbalula said. “And if you drive a non-roadworthy vehicle, it will be impounded.”
