Johannesburg – The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) has criticized the leak of Ace Magashule’s Integrity Committee (IC) report, which called on the party’s general secretary to step aside.
The women’s league criticized the committee, which is headed by George Mashamba, and called on the body to protect itself against the purge of the ANC leadership by coercing the party’s “historical class enemies”.
On Tuesday, the party through spokesman Pule Mabe said that Magashule would not step aside immediately and that the national executive committee (NEC) would commit to the report “at the right time.”
The secretary-general faces criminal charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering in connection with the 255 million rand asbestos saga.
An arrest warrant was issued for the former Prime Minister of the Free State and he appeared before the Bloemfontein High Court.
ANCWL Secretary General Meokgo Matuba said they would continue to defend the unity and integrity of the ANC and its principles, against “any tendency to break up and factionalism.”
Matuba criticized the integrity committee “and its impatient reports” and said they would wait for the NEC to adopt the modalities of the rule of the step aside.
“In carrying out its functions and responsibilities, the IC must not attempt to prove itself to populist demagogues by selling lies and pitting ANC comrades against each other.
“The IC must be guided by a high level of integrity and principles of the ANC. The ANCWL will involve ANC officials and the IC because of their divisive nature and inconsistency in dealing with the cases before it.
“As women, we will defend the movement of our ancestors at this difficult time.
“The energy invested in taking a step to the side that, among others, has to do with the fight against fraud and corruption, must be extended and used to advance the implementation of the resolutions that seek to address economic social freedom in our lives. .
“The same energy must be used to fight violence against women and children,” she said.
Matuba said the league supported the implementation of Nasrec conference resolutions, which included the nationalization of the South African Reserve Bank, the expropriation of land without compensation, and the establishment of a State Bank.
“We support the fight against fraud and corruption, however, we will not endorse any IC report that appears to be advancing a particular counterrevolutionary narrative against the ANC NEC’s decision,” he said.
