Sundowns Mamelodi continued his undefeated start to the Premiership season with a 2-0 victory over TS Galaxy at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.

Peter Shalulile scored in the first half, while the impressive Themba Zwane scored his seventh goal of the campaign at the end, as table-leading Masandawana sealed their fifth win in seven outings.

The match was the Sundowns’ first since the death of Motjeka Madisha, who was killed in a car accident on Sunday.

It was the visitors who started the game brilliantly with a deflected shot by Mbulelo Wambi off the crossbar from Denis Onyango’s goal after a good counterattack that started in his own penalty area.

David Matlala returned to finish off the goal for the Galaxy, but Onyango again denied the end.

Sundowns slowly began to enter the contest, with the defending champions showing their class by taking the lead just after half an hour with their first goal attempt.

A fine pass movement down the right saw Zwane sending a brilliant kick that beat the Galaxy defense past Shalulile, who made no mistake with the spike, beating Galaxy goalkeeper Wensten van der Linde between his legs.

Shalulile nearly doubled his team’s lead a minute later, but the forward’s effort was saved by Van der Linde.

The visitors came out enthusiastic after the break seeking the equalizer with Wambi again denied by Onyango.

Shalulile should have had his double in the 65th minute when he found himself free in the penalty area, but the Namibian forward headed a Lyle Lakay corner kick that was deflected from twenty feet.

However, Sundowns always seemed to be in control of the proceedings and ten minutes later ended the match with Zwane scoring his team’s second goal.

Now famous passing and moving football was on full display from Masandawana when Zwane made an effort in the top corner after being set up by Lebohang Maboe.

The Galaxy were denied late consolation when Ebrahim Seedat saw a penalty saved by Onyango after Sundowns defender Brian Onyango was found guilty of touching the ball in the area.

in the end, though the ten-time league winners were worthy of the three points as they continue to set the standards in the Premiership.
