Cape Town – Police Minister Bheki Cele threatened to shut down a commercial that was being filmed on Camps Bay beach, during a visit on Wednesday afternoon.
The production behind the commercial was about to film an advertisement for people at a beach party, but Cele ordered police to monitor the shutdown of production, while visiting nine Cape beaches to verify Covid-19 compliance.
He visited Strand, Macassar, Monwabisi, Mnandi, Strandfontein, Muizenberg, Camps Bay, Clifton, and Big Bay.
Cele said he was happy to see people adhere to Covid-19 regulations, but was disappointed in the city of Cape Town, which allowed the film to be produced on the beach.
He said he would report to the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) what he found during his visit to the Cape Town beach.

Mayor’s Safety and Security Committee member JP Smith said Cele ordered 16 SAPS officers to come down and shut down a movie set in Camps Bay Beach, which has a legal permit from the city and is now employing to 75 people.
Smith said: “But they never got to see officers patrolling gang-infested areas, so the next time Cape Flats residents or municipalities wonder why they can’t find cops, maybe it’s because the national minister is busy deploying them. to score political points.. “
Smith said 30 minutes later and now there were 30 SAPS officers preventing filming from continuing.
“Apparently all crime in the Cape Flats and municipalities have been eliminated. The entourage that walks the beaches and visits the sites with Cele includes 47 officers and at least four generals. How’s that for the productive application of police resources ? ” Smith asked.
He said an urgent injunction is currently being obtained to prevent the minister from allegedly illegally interfering with the filming of the film.

Mayor Dan Plato said the Mother City received a respite by not being declared a hotspot area, and the City will do everything possible to ensure compliance with the restrictions, as well as the amended restrictions that have been announced.
Plato said that while its beaches remained open, “it is up to our residents to behave in a responsible way, as the national government will not hesitate to close our beaches also in case they see a breach.”
