With a formal identification of the body still to be processed, Downs has asked PSL to postpone the planned tributes before the midweek games.
Mamelodi Sundowns has asked the Premier Soccer League to postpone the planned tributes for defender Motjeka Madisha, who was allegedly killed in a car accident on Sunday morning, as the body has not yet been officially identified.
The PSL has revealed that there are still certain issues to be resolved by the South African Police in relation to the reported death of the South African international, and has indefinitely canceled the moment of silence planned in memory of the player.
Madisha is believed to have been killed in a car accident that occurred in the East Rand in the early hours of Sunday, but her employers, Sundowns, have been taking a cautious approach in confirming the player’s death.
Two days after the incident, the club has yet to issue a conclusive statement on the situation and the fate of the player.
Ahead of midweek league games, when Sundowns host TS Galaxy on Tuesday, PSL say the Brazilians requested a moment of silence for the player be suspended.
“Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club has called on the PSL to postpone observing a moment of silence regarding Mr. Motjeka Madisha until the South African police services have resolved certain problems,” the PSL said in a statement on Tuesday.

The latest event comes less than 24 hours after Sundowns announced “a period of uncertainty” surrounding Madisha’s death.
The player’s family met with pathologists on Monday and is now awaiting DNA identification of the remains, which were burned beyond recognition in the accident.
Madisha is believed to have been the driver of the car involved in the tragic incident, but Downs does not appear willing to confirm the death of the defender until DNA results confirm it was him at the wheel.
“The nature of the horrific car accident that took place on Zuurfontein Road near Chloorkop requires that all processes be followed by the necessary authorities with relevant experience to confirm the identity of the driver,” Sundowns said in a statement Monday.
“The Madisha family requests privacy and appropriate protocols are followed during this difficult period of uncertainty. Mamelodi Sundowns will communicate further details after consulting with the Madisha family once the DNA test results have been released. “
Conflicting information has also been released regarding Madisha’s passing, with police reporting that the car accident occurred early Sunday morning, while Sundowns has stated that the tragic incident occurred on Saturday night.
The accident came after Sundowns celebrated its 50th anniversary on Saturday night, although it is understood that the defender did not attend the event.
