Durban – The KZN ANC Integrity Commission has given the green light to former Durban Mayor Zandile Gumede to return to work in the KZN Legislature, where he represents the party as MPL.

According to the Integrity Commission of the African National Congress, Gumede can return to party work as well as to the provincial legislature.

In an interview with eNCA, ANC KZN spokesperson Nhlakanipho Ntombela said that Gumede appeared before the committee in October and members welcomed her appearance as she was open during her engagement with them.

He said the committee also learned that the Gumede fraud case has been going on for almost more than a year without any conclusion.

“Based on their commitment to her as an Integrity Committee, they are of the opinion that their membership in the ANC Regional Task Force at eThekwini and their membership in the Provincial Legislature will be reinstated. This, of course, will be determined as we move forward by the court case and how it will proceed, “he said.

Gumede faces a series of charges related to a tender for R430m Durban Solid Waste (DSW).

He appeared at the Durban Commercial Crimes Court last week, where the matter was postponed once again. Gumede will appear in court again in March of next year.

The suspended city manager, Sipho Nzuza, his wife Bagcinele, and the ANC’s senior councilor, Mondli Mthembu, are also charged in the matter.

Meanwhile, Judge Dawn Somaroo warned that if the State does not deliver a forensic report and all the information related to the defendants’ lawyers, an investigation will be carried out to obtain answers and one of the possible scenarios would be to cross out the matter. the roll.
