After a series of postponements, his application for bail began in Bellville Regional Court on Tuesday morning.

Kilian has been in custody since his arrest in September; arrested two days after Kinnear was shot and killed outside his Bishop Lavis home.

The former rugby player faces charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and illegal wiretapping.

Defense attorney Eric Breyer objected to his client spending more time behind bars.

This is the latest in a series of postponements, the State was unable to previously proceed with its case as the lead investigating officer came into contact with a positive COVID-19 case and self-isolates himself.

The state said Killian tracked the lead detective’s cell phone back to the time of his murder. Authorities believe this played a key role in exposing the exact location of the murdered detective to the trigger.
