“One of the biggest challenges we face is the huge crowds that flock to beaches and recreational parks on holidays during the holiday season,” he said.

The president has also announced that the sale of alcohol at points of sale will only be allowed between 10 a.m. M. And 6 p.m. M. From Monday to Thursday.

The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in all public spaces.

Registered wineries and wine farms may continue to offer wine tastings and sales to the public for off-site consumption on weekends.

Ramaphosa has also warned against large gatherings and widely publicized events.

Referring to a youth festival in Durban that led to hundreds of infections, he said such gatherings and parties are a major source of COVID-19 outbreaks.

Nearly 1,000 Gauteng teens who attended the Rage festival in Kwazulu-Natal tested positive for COVID-19.

“In many of these gatherings, you don’t see social distancing, the venues are often crowded,” Ramaphosa said.
