CAPE TOWN – The CSA Interim Board delivered a suspension notice and disciplinary hearing to CSA Interim Executive Director Kugandrie Govender on Monday.
This notice establishes allegations of misconduct by Govender while serving as CSA’s Chief Commercial Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer. The hearing will take place on January 28, 2021, when Govender will be allowed to respond to the charges that have been brought against him.
The charges against Govender concern, among other things,
(i) the role it played in the revocation of the media accreditation of certain journalists in December 2019;
(ii) various infractions of the provisions of the Capital Companies Act as a prescribed CSA official; and
(iii) the role it played in the firing of Clive Eksteen, which CSA has now recognized (in terms of a settlement agreement with Eksteen) was an unfair dismissal.
Govender has been suspended and will receive full payment until the matter is decided.
To ensure that CSA remains fully functional during this time, the Interim Board has arranged for the appointment of a capable person from an audit firm to withstand non-compliance until early January 2021.
The executive management team is led by CSA CFO Pholetsi Moseki, effective immediately. He has agreed to take on this position in the short term and we look forward to working with him.
The IB President also reached out to CSA staff to address any concerns they might have and assure them of the full IB support.
