JOHANNESBURG – The message from the government has been clear: avoid big gatherings, practice social distancing and wear a mask.
But despite the pleas of our country’s leaders, not all South Africans heeded the call.
Not surprisingly, law enforcement is cracking down on illegal gatherings.
In Gauteng, at least nine illegal liquor establishments have been closed and more than 200 people have been arrested.

In Durban, people in a popular lounge amused themselves while disobeying the COVID-19 rules.
It was a similar scene on the beaches of Durban.
Crowds of people were basking in the sun and sand without a mask in sight.
It is no wonder that the Prime Minister of the Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane, wants to close the beaches in his province.

Bathers are not the only ones breaking the rules.
A video posted to eNCA by one of our viewers is from a tapas bar in Cape Town showing people having fun while breaking the rules.
Police have vowed to step up their efforts as part of their holiday season campaign.
