Benni mccarthy has made a long-awaited return to South African soccer after being introduced on Monday as the new head coach of ambitious Amazulu with the Durban-based side aiming for a new dawn of success.

“I’m back in the 18 guys in the area,” McCarthy said upon his return when owner Sandile Zungu introduced him as the club’s new head coach.

McCarthy replaces outgoing Ayanda Dlamini, who stepped down to take on a role within the club’s academy after overseeing just one victory of the first six games in the DSTV Premiership.

“Benni is in Usuthu area 18,” Zungu added.

“I’m sure you will agree with me that when you want to create an inspiring brand that we want AmaZulu to become, we have to prove it.

“And that’s with our technical team and in particular with our head coach. Benni McCarthy is associated with aspiration.

“We want to train and develop young players who want to play for AmaZulu Football Club because, among other things, they would say they want to be coached by Benni McCarthy.

“Also the players will say ‘I want to play for Bafana Bafana because I will partner with someone who has done so much for the Bafana Bafana brand.’

McCarthy thanked the club for showing faith in him as a coach while confirming his commitment to bringing success to the club.

“It didn’t take me long to convince myself to join this club,” McCarthy said. “When someone talks to you about not changing the lives of the footballers at the club at this time, but those that will come, the future.”

“To improve South African football because of the amount of talent we have in this country.

“How can you not be part of a club so you have those aspirations?

“I’m excited to identify and give an opportunity like the one that I had that allowed me to have the career that I had with other young players and develop them at a club like AmaZulu,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy confirmed that he was committed to guiding the club into a new era of success and aimed to compete with the best teams in the country and compete for league honors.

The 43-year-old’s first assignment as new head coach will be a league clash with Golden Arrows on Wednesday.

The start is at 19:30.
