South Africa could be one step closer to securing the extradition of the self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri fugitive from Malawi and his wife Mary.
This is after the Malawian attorney general gave authority on Monday for the Malawian high court to issue an arrest warrant so they could face a case of fraud, theft and money laundering amounting to 100 million rand in South Africa. .
“The papers for the extradition of Mr. and Mrs. Bushiri have been signed and this afternoon [Monday] He will be presented to the Malawi High Court for the issuance of the arrest warrant. This means that if the court issues the arrest warrant, the Bushiris will be arrested and extradited to South Africa, ”Malawian Information Minister Gospel Kazako said.
He said he wasn’t sure when this would happen because it depended on the court’s decision on when the matter will be heard.
The Bushiri bypassed SA last month after they were granted bail in a case of fraud, theft and money laundering worth about 100 million rand.
They were expected to appear in the Lilongwe High Court in Malawi on Monday, where they are appealing their arrest.
Meanwhile, Bushiri’s co-defendant Willah Mudolo, his wife Zethu and Landiwe Ntlokwana appeared in Pretoria magistrates court on Monday to request Mudolo’s bail, which was postponed until Tuesday.
