Malawian government signs extradition documents for Bushiris to return to South Africa

JOHANNESBURG – The government of Malawi has signed the extradition documents for the self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary.

The couple fled South Africa last month while on bail.

The leaders of the Illuminated Christian Church face charges of fraud and money laundering worth 100 million rand.

The Pretoria Magistrates Court granted the couple bail despite alarms about the legitimacy of their passports.

Malawi launched its own investigation into the matter, saying that if the Bushiri were extradited, the decision would have to be in line with Malawian law.

Government spokesman Gospel Kazako said they had already made this decision.
