The ANC in the Western Cape legislature is demanding the full report on the controversial matrix party that started all the trouble at Brackenfell High in Cape Town.
Provincial Legislature Member Khalid Sayed said he had submitted an Access to Information Promotion request to the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) for the full report.
“The ANC wants to study the full actual WCED report to give an adequate comment on this issue of institutionalized racism and assess its way forward on this crucial issue,” Sayed said in a statement.
“Given the importance of addressing racism in our educational institutions, the ANC is very concerned that the MEC [Debbie Schäfer] refuses to make the report public, but only gave his version of it. “

The lawsuit comes after a lengthy controversy over whether blacks were barred from a Brackenfell High matrix farewell function.
The accusation drew the ire of the EFF and ultimately led the police to try to disperse a massive group of protesters who were attempting to descend on the school to show their disapproval. Previously, a smaller group of EFF supporters and some parents and residents clashed when the EFF tried to reach out.
Schäfer has stated that according to the department’s investigation, the matrix party was not a school event, as reported, but was organized privately by a father who had wanted to do something special for his son and some of the boy’s friends afterwards. of the matrix farewell. it was cancelled.
The R500 per entry event on a wine estate was organized for October 17th.
Schäfer said the invitation was widely distributed through WhatsApp groups. He also said that the father had asked the class representatives to circulate it among the WhatsApp groups in his class and that the principal had confirmed that they had done so.
“The invitation was also posted on the organizing parents’ Facebook page, so it was also open to people outside of Brackenfell High. As a result, 42 students from Brackenfell High School and 30 from other nearby schools attended,” Schäfer said.

“A separate WhatsApp group was started for those who responded that they wanted to attend. This would explain the allegations of some who claim to have been excluded from a WhatsApp group,” Schäfer said.
She refuted allegations that the principal did not attend because students of color were not attending.
“According to the report, both the director and the director were invited but did not attend as they had other plans that day and were organizing their own farewell functions,” said Schäfer.
However, Sayed insists on seeing the original report.
