DURBAN – The South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (Saids) informed Springbok wing Aphiwe Dyantyi that she lost her case against a four-year suspension for a doping offense.
On Friday, the institute informed the Springboks and the former Lions wing of its findings and a formal statement will be released on Monday.
It will be devastating for the 2018 World Rugby Revelation Player of the Year, who has always protested his innocence of any known offense and has spoken out of his deep depression since first testing positive for three banned substances after a national training camp in 2019.
Dyantyi was practically certain of going to the Rugby World Cup in Japan before the shocking news that he had failed a doping test.

The 26-year-old from the Eastern Cape has since been suspended and it was only last month that his hearing finally concluded.
Saids spokesman Khalid Galant has confirmed to the media that Dyanti is banned from all sports until August 12, 2023, which is two weeks before his 29th birthday.
Dyantyi’s agent, Gert van der Merwe, told a Sunday newspaper that they were shocked by the result.
“The decision doesn’t make sense,” Van der Merwe said. “I have yet to read the full decision. My legal team and I plan to review the decision next week and will decide whether to appeal.
“I cannot give more details, as the case has not yet been finalized. If it were up to me, we would definitely appeal. The problem is that it has associated costs.
“Aphiwe has not received a salary for the last 18 months (he no longer has a contract with the Lions) and we are trying to see what we can do. I think the decision is wrong. Aphiwe we can’t believe it. We were starting to prepare to play again, “added Van der Merwe.
Dyantyi is understood to have stated in his defense that he had unknowingly used the banned substances on June 30, 2019, when he drank from a friend’s bottle during a gym session. Two days later he underwent urinalysis …
Dyanti was a popular World Rugby award winner in 2018 having scored six attempts in 18 events for the Springboks.
Two months ago, another former Springbok, Chiliboy Ralepelle, lost an appeal against an eight-year suspension for a similar offense.
