There are 7,882 new cases of Covid-19 in SA, increasing the total number of positive cases in the country to 852,965, according to the national Department of Health.

There have also been 154 more deaths, increasing the death toll in the country to 23,106, the department announced Saturday night.

Most of the deaths occurred in the Eastern Cape, where 97 people died. There were 31 deaths in the Western Cape, 11 in Gauteng, 10 in KwaZulu-Natal, and five in the Free State.

A cumulative total of 5,819,755 tests have been carried out, of which 40,211 have been carried out since the last report from the National Health Department was received.

The number of recoveries stands at 760118.
