ActionSA’s application to register as a political party has finally been approved by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
Acting party chairman Herman Mashaba received the news on Saturday morning and was beaming with excitement as he spoke about his future prospects.
“We already have 160,000 volunteers across the country and this registration issue worried them. There will be celebrations across the country, ”Mashaba told City Press.
In September, the IEC rejected ActionSA’s request over concerns that the party’s logo would be similar to that of another political party.
Their logo features the South African flag and appears to be like that of the Action Party.

The commission cited a violation of section 16 (1) (b) of the Electoral Commission Act which states that the electoral office may reject the registration of a party if its distinctive mark or symbol resembles that of another party that may deceive or confuse voters.
Mashaba then launched an appeal that was ultimately dismissed. It was then that the party decided to redesign the logo.
“Our new logo, which has been approved by the IEC, remains consistent with the logo that was originally introduced. This was important to ActionSA because their identity was the subject of a nine-month public participation process. ”
“It maintains the shapes of the South African flag infused with the directional arrow denoting the A’s progress for action. In real terms, the colors of the logo have simply changed to green, ”the party said in a statement issued Sunday morning.
Mashaba said the party was ready to contest the 2021 local elections, in Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and Tshwane.
“Taking control of these municipalities will help overthrow the ANC and render them irrelevant, turn them into a rural political party and then, in 2024, we will be ready to contest the nine provinces,” according to Mashaba.
Feasibility studies are still ongoing that will inform whether they will also try to infiltrate eThekwini, Mangaung, and Nelson Mandela Bay.
