JOHANNESBURG – Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan has warned any company entering dubious deals with state industries to come forward or face more severe punishment.
He spoke in the announcement of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) about the agreement with the Swiss company ABB.
Eskom will be reimbursed 1.56 billion rand from a bogus deal.
The company was hired to provide controls and instrumental work to the state energy company for the Kusile power plant for R2.2 billion, but the price of the project was overstated.
The SIU said they were able to open an investigation into the case due to ABB’s voluntary disclosure.
Gordhan says companies better come forward: “Now is the time for you to reach out to the SIU and other agencies and make a voluntary disclosure because the consequences of not doing so will be at one stage or another, your role will be identified and described and whether through civil lawsuits or criminal charges, he will indeed face the music. ”
