Cape Town: Eskom to implement stage 2 load shedding from 6am to 11pm tomorrow
After warning yesterday that there was a “high probability” if more capacity would be lost, Eskom said in a statement late Friday that the load cut will be repeated on Sunday.
“The load shedding will be repeated on Sunday as the system is severely restricted. Eskom also needs to implement this load shedding to replenish depleted emergency reserves for next week, ”the energy company said.
As Eskom ramps up its planned maintenance during the off-peak summer period, as promised previously, it has had a host of unforeseen breakdowns from the aging and unreliable plant over the past few days.

” In addition to this, Eskom has disconnected two generating units at the Kendal power station in compliance with environmental legislation. Similarly, four generation units at Camden Power Station have been taken offline to preserve the integrity of the ash dam facility.
“We currently have 7,452MW in planned maintenance, while another 10,208MW of capacity is unavailable due to unplanned maintenance.
“Eskom asks the people of South Africa to continue to use electricity sparingly to help us limit the impact of load shedding. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused during this difficult period.
“We will continue in time in the event of significant changes to the electrical system.”
On Wednesday, Eskom reminded South Africans that there is a high probability that cargo will be lost between now and September next year.
